EDUCATING A CHILD DESPITE THE PANDEMIC: by Joevyva Mae A. Torre
Teacher: students what have you learned
from the subjects?
Students: wait po Ma'am google ko muna.
"We aren't learning, we just do tasks
merely for passing grades."
"Academic Freeze please"
After reading these writings from social media posts, I was curious as to how these my co- students cope with the demands of modular or online distance learning education. Raising a child, in particular, necessitates a great deal of clear direction, thoughtful teaching, unconditional love, a watchful eye, a listening ear, a fair mind, and an open heart. "It takes resolute parents with the unwavering mission to provide the best future for their child; patient and dedicated teachers and school heads with the vision and commitment to implement reforms; education officials and policymakers, whose unwavering mission is to find ways to always improve and enhance the quality of education," according to an elementary school teacher. Mrs. Francisco also stressed that we currently need stakeholders who are willing to lend support to the system" where she stressed how school is very important in molding children's character.
Because of the epidemic, virtual schooling was chosen as a platform to address educational needs. Communication with teachers is vital for extending the village concept since it allows for more sharing of the children's upbringing. This is why tools like Zoom, Google Meet, Moodle, and LMS are so vital in today's educational system. Flexible Learning would "continue in the school year 2021 and onwards," according to Chairperson J. Prospero De Vera III, claiming that "if we went back to the traditional face-to-face, we would have wasted all of our expenditures in technology, teacher training, and facility retrofitting."
During this difficult time, this new manner of learning brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic may be an additional burden. And, because returning to the "normal" we've all become accustomed to isn't going to happen anytime soon, let's all do our best to adjust and make the best of the circumstance we've found ourselves in. Remember that the purpose of online learning is to keep pupils academically engaged so that they can retain what they've learned. Student discipline and hard work are extremely necessary in the Philippine educational system in order to obtain the desired quality education in the new normal. However, internet access is still important, as it can have a significant impact on a student's learning performance.
Educating a child virtually necessitates a great deal of patience, styles and tactics, and self-discipline, with parents having an important role in their education. This worldwide health crisis has resulted in a slew of issues, ranging from mental and physical health to poor Wi-Fi connections to a lack of lodging. Students are strained in ways they never anticipated, and there is nothing stable about our current position. Many of us, on the other hand, have a proclivity to make excuses for ourselves, whether to others or to ourselves, regarding our ability to get ourselves together to study.
Similarly, educators should be eager to work with students to address their issues. They should check in on individual students in the classrooms where this is possible and try to get to know them and their situation. When it comes to a new normal in education, this means more work from students and more patience from professors... and vice versa. We all know that students must listen to their teachers in the end, but teachers who are receptive and empathetic will pay attention to your needs if you're still trying your hardest—even if it's a little rusty.
There are numerous issues with the Philippine educational system that must be addressed, but our Higher Education Institution should consider the following aspects when reviewing its current policies. The current administration is making significant changes to our educational system, which could have a significant impact on our country's future. And, in order to tackle some challenges, they may need to make significant judgments during this process. We must not neglect to remind them that, above all things, the quality of education received by young Filipinos must be prioritised.
